Range of geographic distribution of the five Spanish ibex (Capra pyrenaica) populations sampled in this study (Ordesa, Beceite-Tortosa, Muela de Cortés, Gredos and Batuecas). Numbers in parentheses indicate population sizes reported by Pérez et al (2002) and corresponding to estimates obtained in 1993–1997. The Ordesa National Park C. p. pyrenaica population had 1–2 individuals in 1997 but the last representative of this subspecies died in January 2000.
