Left: A rapid change in pH from 7.4 to 6 results in inward currents measured at -70 mV in the xenopus oocyte. Right: A drop in pH results in proton transfer and action potential. The mean inward current (I) is measured over six experiments as compared to the maximum inward current (Imax). A significant change in inward current is seen at a mean pH (pHm) of 6.4.
