Sundog and its reflection - Sundogs are brightly colored parhelia appearing 22 degrees on either side of the sun, formed by refraction from hexagonal ice crystals high in the atmosphere. This sundog and its reflection in a rainwater pocket in the sandstone of Arches National Park (Utah, USA) was photographed by Ian Parker, a neurobiologist at the University of California, and an avid wilderness photographer.
