Scientific research often progresses slowly, with small careful steps, similar to the locomotion of this snail (Helix pomatia), which slowly glides forward, guided by its careful flexible eyes. Having studied the genetics of mucopolysaccharidosis and retinitis pigmentosa in the past, the current interests of the photographer, Raf Vervoort, focus on inner ear defects in the mouse. A small portfolio of his photography can be found at www.bvnf.be/portfolio/p_vervoort.htm.
