One bitter cold February morning at Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming). I snow-shoed to Castle Geyser and set my tripod to compose a back-lit scene of steam rising from the geyser. The buffalo walked across between the geyser and my camera and paused only long enough for two exposures, silhouetted in front of the geyser. It was one of those unplanned but couldn't-be-missed opportunities. says William R Hoot about this image. William Hoot has worked as a diagnostic radiologist in Fort Worth, Texas, for 26 years.
