Cover. Several osprey pairs breed each year on Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth in Western Australia. A female osprey was photographed bringing a still wriggling fish back to the nest to feed her single chick. One or two fish of a similar size were caught in the Indian Ocean every day to sustain the pair. The aerial plunge and subsequent recovery from the sea, often with a heavy payload, of these impressive raptors is an awesome spectacle. The photographer, Dr Graeme Guy, is a Principal Investigator of the Signal Transduction Laboratory at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Singapore. Canon EOS1N, 100-400 mm zoom lens, 1/500th sec. f8.
