Cover. Luminescent mushrooms. When hiking at night through the forests covering the slopes of Mt Rinjani on the Indonesian island of Lombok, the luminescent mycel of these mushrooms gave just about enough light to substitute for the empty batteries in the torchlight. The film was exposed for 2 min to capture the green luminescence before the ailing torch was used to light up the forest ground. Freddy Frischknecht works on plasmodium invasion at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.
