Cover. (41.17 N 8.58 W) Situated on the mouth of the River Douro, Porto (or Oporto) is Portugal's second largest city. Awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO, the historical centre still preserves a strong identity forged over many centuries, clearly visible in its typical houses with colourful façades and freshly washed clothes hanging out of the windows.
