Cover. The cover image is an immunofluorescence micrograph of cultured neuroblastoma cells (N2a) incubated with recombinant prion protein fused to GST. Binding of the prion protein was monitored using a monoclonal antibody directed against GST. The punctuate staining shows the binding of the cellular prion protein to its 37-kDa/67-kDa laminin receptor on the cell surface. Christoph Leucht, who recorded this image, is a graduate student in the Weiss laboratory. Corinne Ida Lasmézas is senior scientist at the CEA, Service de Neurovirologie in Fontenay-aux-Roses close to Paris, France. Stefan Weiss is assistant professor at the Gene Center, Institute of Biochemistry in Munich, Germany. For further details see Gauczynski et al., pages 5863--5875 and Hundt et al., pages 5876--5886.
