Cover. Images show intracellular Ca2+ signals evoked in a Xenopus oocyte by photorelease of inositol trisphosphate from a caged precursor. Each panel is a surface representation derived from a single image frame captured using a 'home-made' video-rate confocal microscope. Ian Parker and Jonathan Marchant work in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, at the University of California, Irvine. They are interested in intracellular Ca2+ signaling mechanisms, and in the development of biophotonic techniques for cellular imaging and stimulation. For further details see Marchant and Parker, pages 65--76.
