Cover. A small cell clone in the Drosophila eye that is marked with Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP, green) and overexpresses the CyclinD/CDK4 kinase complex. Cytoskeletal actin, which outlines the cells, is shown in red, and nuclear DNA is stained blue. This optical section illustrates ommatidiae (eye facets) composed of four central cone cells and two flanking pigment cells. The ommatidium overexpressing CyclinD/Cdk4 has one extra cone cell, and shows marked cell enlargement, a result of excessive post-mitotic cell growth. Photographed on a Deltavision SA/30 deconvolution microscope (Applied Precision). For further details see Datar et al., pp. 4543--4554.
