Cover. Drosophila S2 tissue culture cell undergoing anaphase and immunostained for the Mast protein (red), tubulin (green) and DNA (blue). Mast is a conserved microtubule-associated protein that localizes to multiple compartments of the mitotic apparatus and is required for normal segregation of centrosomes and the organization of the bipolar spindle. During anaphase, Mast concentrates to the central region of the mitotic spindle and the spindle poles. Claudio E.Sunkel is an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology at the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas de Abel Salazar and Group Leader at the Instituto de Biologia Molecular e Celular da Universidade do Porto, Portugal. He is interested in the mechanisms that integrate spindle assembly with progression through mitosis and the control of chromosome segregation.
