ArrayExpress service for reviewers/editors of DNA microarray papers

There is a well-established principle in life sciences that data on which scientific publications are based must be made available in a way that enables other researchers to verify published conclusions. The concept of the Minimum Information About a Microarray Experiment, known as MIAME1, was proposed by the Microarray Gene Expression Data (MGED) society to aid in implementation of this principle within the DNA microarray community. The adoption of these guidelines by Nature and other journals2 has prompted the submission of microarray data sets to the major public repositories—ArrayExpress in Europe3 and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) in the United States4. As of October 2006, data from over 1,600 microarray studies comprising 50,000 arrays had been submitted to ArrayExpress, and over a terabyte of data has been downloaded in the past year.
