Smoking, Nicotine, and Addiction
- With over 400,000 deaths every year, cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death and disease in America. As the complexities of addiction go beyond merely psychological dependence, it is vital to understand genetic and pharmacologic factors surrounding nicotine and other substances of abuse. In doing so, we gain valuable insight into preventing addiction and enhancing cessation of addictive substances. This special web focus, presented by Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, is a compilation of many important articles on the topics of smoking, nicotine, and addiction.
