Improved detection of bladder cancer
A new method for detecting bladder tumours will provide improvements for patients' treatment and a reduction in cancer recurrence rates. In a review article appearing online in Nature Clinical Practice Urology this week, J Alfred Witjes and Jude Douglass compare this method with traditional methods and suggest that it could also prove more cost-effective in the diagnosis and management of bladder cancer.

Successful neoadjuvant chemotherapy in pregnancy
A pregnant woman with cervical cancer has been treated successfully with neoadjuvant cisplatin chemotherapy, in order to stabilize her cancer so that surgery could be delayed until fetal maturation. The case study, reported in the June issue of Nature Clinical Practice Oncology, is one of the first reports showing successful treatment using a weekly cisplatin regimen during pregnancy.

Recommendations help identify patients suitable for NSAID treatment
