FIXED TERM TRAINING APPOINTMENT IN ORTHODONTICS
Applications are invited for two Fixed Term Training Appointments in the North Western (Greater Manchester and Lancashire) Deanery Programme in Orthodontics. The appointments are joint posts between the University Dental Hospital of Manchester and either Wythenshawe Hospital or Burnley General Hospital.
The training programmes, which have been approved by the SAC in Orthodontics, offer advanced training in orthodontics. They are intended to prepare the appointees for the Intercollegiate Higher Assessment in Orthodontics and future posts as NHS consultant orthodontists.
Applicants must hold a dental qualification with full registration, Membership in Orthodontics at one of the Royal Colleges and a CCST in Orthodontics. Applicants must have good verbal communication skills and be able to develop good relationships with colleagues and patients. The candidates need to have an interest in teaching and teaching methods.

A rare opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team in Scotland's Granite City.
The post is available with immediate effect.
The Maxillofacial Unit services the North East of Scotland covering a widely scattered population of over 630,000. The successful applicant will join the 3 existing Speciality Dr/Staff Grade Surgeons based at the teaching hospital of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. There are 4 consultants in OMFS and planned expansion to create more consultant posts in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in the near future and a proposal to later regionalisation of the service across the North of Scotland. There are 3 SHO's in OMFS and 2 FHO2 posts who provide 1st on call rota. The staff grade is not expected to perform any on-call duties.
The Maxillofacial Unit carries out additional operating and out-patient sessions in Elgin, Orkney and Shetland and the successful applicant may be required to contribute to these peripheral clinical commitments. There are departments of Orthodontics and Restorative Dentistry, who are also undergoing significant expansion, with whom regular combined clinics are held, on site with an excellent range of support services. All surgical and medical specialties are available on site. Successful applicants will be based at the North East of Scotland's Teaching Hospital at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Applicants are required to be registered with the GDC. Applicants who have had at least 2 years experience at SHO level in OMFS are required and MFDS or equivalent would be preferred.

The training post with the Salaried Primary Care Dental Service offers the opportunity to undertake clinical examination and treatment of special care and priority groups in the population. This may include sessions in fixed and mobile clinics, in people's homes or in hospitals and use of/ or observation of treatment under sedation. There may also be the opportunity to observe school screening, oral health promotion programmes and dental epidemiology, depending on the timing of the post. The Postgraduate Dean has confirmed that the advertised post has the required educational and staffing approval. The post provides suitable training for the MFDS examination. Preference will be given to those candidates with Part A MFDS, MFGDP part 1 or new MFDS/MJDF part 1.


This appointment will be until February 2010 in the first instance with an extension of a further six months subject to satisfactory progress. A full driving licence is desirable for this job to facilitate out of hours transport between hospitals for on-call duties.

The post has duties at Dundee Dental Hospital (3 days) and Aberdeen Dental
Hospital &amp; School (2 days). The post is recognised for post CCST training. You should
have completed the Membership in Orthodontics from one of the Surgical Royal
Colleges of Great Britain and Ireland, have a CCST or equivalent and be entered on
the GDC specialist list.
The post has educational and manpower approval from NHS Education for Scotland
(NES). The training programme is equally open to those who may, either from the
outset or subsequently, wish to train fl exibly.
