(A) A target steady-state level (approximately 15 μM) is achieved with pxy = 0.15 and py = 0.9. The response time is about 10 minutes. (B) Decreasing pyfrom 0.9 to 0.4 (increasing protein degradation) reduces the response time to approximately 2 minutes, which is desired. However, the steady-state level is also substantially reduced as a side effect. (C) The target steady-state level of 15 μM with the response time of 2 minutes can be achieved by increasing pxy from 0.15 to 0.9 while maintaining low py (high protein degradation).
