(ed) Volume 1: Locomotor System, 6th Edition 2009. Thieme Stuttgart, New York, ISBN: 9783135333069, pp 478.

The sixth edition of this color atlas gives a revised and enlarged overview of the anatomy of the locomotor system. It contains 215 color plates by Professor Gerhard Spizer.

Since the fifth edition the importance of morphology has been ‘rediscovered’, as essential in patient care. Much of the new material in the sixth edition is presented in the form of Clinical Tips. A ‘Latin Equivalents’ page has been added to each chapter. The color-keyed borders make it easier to locate specific chapters.

Chapters are as follows: general anatomy (body, cell and tissues), general features of the skeleton, muscles and systematic anatomy of the locomotor system. In the 468 pages, the reader will find nice illustrations on the right page and text on the left page.

This is again a nice, easy-to-use and easy-to-carry book on anatomy of the locomotor system.
