Correction to: Nature Neuroscience https://doi.org/10.1038/nn.4571, published online 22 May 2017.

In the version of this article initially published, what was originally described as ‘conditioned place preference’ in a two-chamber mouse experiment could be better described as ‘conditioned place avoidance’. The error occurred in several places, specifically:

  • In Results, under the heading “PD-L1 and PD-1 mask spontaneous pain and allodynia in a mouse melanoma model” the last sentence of paragraph 3 should read, “Using a two-chamber test, we found that i.pl. sPD-1 treatment also resulted in marked conditioned place avoidance (CPA), an operant measurement of ongoing pain35 (Fig. 8f).”

  • In Figure 8, the legend for panel f should read, “Induction of ongoing pain (CPA) in melanoma-bearing mice by sPD-1 (i.pl.). Left, procedure for assessing CPA in a two-chamber test. Right, difference in time spent in the drug-paired compartment between the preconditioning and postconditioning phases. *P = 0.0367, two-tailed Student’s t-test, n = 7 or 8 mice per group.”

  • In Methods, under the heading “Behavioral analysis in mice and rats” the first two sentences of paragraph 7 should read, “Conditioned place avoidance (CPA) test for spontaneous (ongoing) pain. We used a single-trial conditioning protocol to measure CPA35.”

The error has not been corrected in the original article.
