The British Dental Association (BDA) is inviting nominations for a UK-wide seat on its Principal Executive Committee (PEC).

The PEC has overall responsibility for the control and direction of the policy and affairs of the BDA and its members are the directors of the Association.

There are 15 members on the PEC and each has a share of overall responsibilities, which usually require:

  • Attendance at all meetings of the PEC - around five a year, but maybe more if necessary

  • Attendance at own country council meetings - usually three a year

  • Attendance at UK Council meetings - around two a year

  • Sitting on one to two sub-committees/issue specific forums

  • Attending general meetings of the BDA.

The BDA said it was anticipated that the approximate time commitment for a member of the PEC would be 20 days per year, with an annual remuneration of £15,000.

The post will run until December 2020 with the opportunity to stand for a further full three-year term of office at that point.

Given that membership of the PEC carries significant organisational and legal responsibilities, the BDA said it would provide an induction programme for those elected and ongoing training while members would also have advice and support from the Chief Executive and the wider BDA Team.

Nomination forms should be submitted online by 17.00 on Friday 21 June 2019. A link to the online nomination portal can be found at www.bda.org/elections.

Nominations are also being sought for the remainder of the 2018-2020 session for the Northern Counties seat on the BDA's English Country Council.

The Country Councils play a vital role, said the BDA, in ensuring that the PEC, which is concerned with the strategic direction and governance of the Association, is kept in touch with the views and concerns of members.

The post runs until late 2020 with the entitlement to stand for a further three-year term of office at that point.

Nomination forms must be submitted online by 17.00 Friday 21 June 2019.
