Evidence from the Ross Sea for Widespread Submarine Erosion

Abstract

ONLY limited studies of sedimentary sections in cores from the Ross Sea are available1. Palaeoclimatological investigations of the Antarctic Pacific based on deep sea cores are restricted to latitudes north of 65° S (refs. 2, 3). The high latitude position of the Ross Sea (Fig. 1) and its association with the Ross Ice Shelf make it an ideal area for a study of relationships between the palaeoclimatology and palaeo-oceanography of the Antarctic.
