Abstract
An attempt is made to provide plausible model mechanisms for some high-pressure transformations. Topological distortions of three-dimensional anion nets are considered in simplified terms involving single layers and their stacking. Prototype structures with the same stoichiometry but different cation-coordination numbers are seen to be simply related to one another.
