Spectroscopic Species of 4-Methylumbelliferone in Water and in Ethanol

Abstract

THE fluorescence spectrum and laser properties of 4-methylumbelliferone (4MU) (I) have been reported by Shank, Dienes, Trozzolo and Myer1. We have made a detailed investigation to identify the spectroscopic species and have come to a different conclusion about the assignment of species.
