Abstract
IT is well known that the variation of the Alfvén index (or velocity) with equatorial altitude displays a minimum (or maximum) at a height of 2,000–3,000 km1, forming a hydromagnetic waveguide or resonator between this height and the base of the F2-region. Another minimum (or maximum) denned fairly sharply in the form of a “hump” at the plasmapause has recently been pointed out2,3, with some indication of the propagation of geomagnetic micropulsations at the location of this anomaly4.
