Evasive manoeuvres from bacteria in urinary tract infection

UTI is the main risk factor for the development of renal scarring, arterial hypertension and renal failure in children. E. coli is the most common aetiological agent for UTI and the ability of this microbe to cause UTI is partly dependent on the presence of a number of virulence factors, such as P fimbrial structural subunits A and C, aerobactin receptor, S and F1C fimbriae and Dr-binding adhesins.

Current research by Robino and colleagues, published in Clinical Infectious Diseases, has shown the presence of IBC in children with UTI caused by E. coli, and has characterized the virulence of the strains present in these patients.
