In the version of this article originally published online and in print, 'Prevalence of AF' on the y-axis in Figure 1 was incorrectly labelled as being in units of ×103 instead of ×106. Also, the section on 'Prevalence' in the main text incorrectly referred to an increase in AF from 8.8 million to 18 million in “Europe” rather than “the European Union”. Both errors have been corrected in the HTML and PDF versions of the article.
