Questionable collapse of the bulk modulus in CrN

In their recent Nature Materials article, Rivadulla et al.1 reported an unexpected reduction of the bulk modulus (K0) of about 25% in CrN at the pressure-induced transition from the cubic low-pressure phase to the orthorhombic high-pressure phase at ∼1 GPa. As the authors were unable to experimentally measure with certainty the bulk modulus of the cubic phase that is stable only below 1 GPa, the evidence for the main conclusion of this work was obtained from ab initio calculations.
