Effect of ATP on Protein Degradation in Rat Liver Lysosomes

Abstract

The catheptic activity of rat liver lysosomes was found to be stimulated by the addition of ATP plus Mg ions. It is concluded that ATP facilitates the pinocytotic engulfment of proteins into the lysosomes and thereby stimulates proteolysis.
