Effect of Lateral Hypothalamic Injections of 6-Hydroxydopamine on Food and Water Intake in Rats

Abstract

NORADRENALINE has been proposed as a neurotransmitter in the central neural networks mediating eating behaviour. The principal evidence is the feeding1–4 and drinking5 elicited by intrahypothalamic injections of drugs. Results from this type of experiment, moreover, have suggested that different adrenergic receptors mediate the two behaviours: feeding is elicited through alpha, and drinking through beta, adrenergic receptors5.
