We thank Dr Ford and Dr Hagan1 for their thorough evaluation of our paper2 and appreciate their comments.

We used the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) to show the linear association (or lack thereof) between the various methods of insertion length estimation and the final appropriate insertion length, while appreciating the fact that a strong linear relationship does not necessarily translate into equivalence. In this paper, the PCC showed that there was a very good correlation between the surface anatomy measurements UN (umbilicus to nipple distance) and UN-1, and the experimentally measured true insertion length. Correlation with the UIMD (umbilicus to midpoint of intermammary distance) measurement was second best, whereas the UXp (umbilicus to xiphoid process distance) measurement showed a poor correlation.
