The Hyatt Regency New Orleans is the headquarters hotel for the 2002 Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting. Hotel reservations are the responsibility of the individual registrant. A block of rooms has been reserved at a rate of $189 per night for single and $209 double occupancy. Rooms will be held at this rate until February 12, 2002. ACMG GENETICS REVIEW COURSE

June 7–9, 2002 Hyatt Regency O'Hare, Rosemont, Illinois

Overview

This course will provide an overview of basic clinical genetics with emphasis on current issues. Areas covered will include prenatal genetics, genetic screening, quantitative genetics, genetic syndromes and malformations, biochemical genetics, cancer genetics, basic cytogenetics, chromosomal syndromes, genetics of common disorders and molecular genetics. There will be lectures on the major areas of medical genetics by recognized experts in those fields. The lectures will be reinforced by a syllabus specifically designed to complement the material covered. In addition, participants will take a pre-review examination composed of questions similar to those one might encounter in the Board examinations. These will be graded and the answers discussed in workshops that will emphasize problem-solving and faculty/attendee interaction.

Goals and Objectives

Upon completion of this Course, participants should be able to:

✓ Identify common genetic syndromes and discuss their clinical features

✓ Interpret standard molecular data and explain how to communicate results to families

✓ Perform simple quantitative genetic calculations and solve related problems

✓ Understand basic cytogenetics and identify features of common chromosomal disorders

✓ Recognize clinical features of selected metabolic disorders, describe their molecular basis and review how to provide counseling about them

✓ Appreciate the extents and limits of prenatal tests and explain how to perform routine prenatal counseling

✓ Understand clinical and molecular aspects of inherited cancer syndromes and know how to provide counseling for common human cancers.

ACMG members registration, $500 advance, $600 on site Nonmembers registration, $575 advance, $675 on site Hotel reservations, $149 single/double 21.5 CME Credits, $35 21.5 CEU Credits, $20 The registration fee includes meals and the syllabus. Registration materials will be mailed in February 2002 to all persons certified by the ABMG and ABGC and to all ACMG members. Others should ask to be put on the mailing list.

21.50 Credit Hours for CEU ($20)

This event is co-sponsored by the American Counseling Association (ACA). ACA is approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) to offer up to 21.50 contact clock hours of continuing education credit. ACA adheres to NBCC continuing education guidelines. NBCC approved contact hours will be provided by ACA. ACA offers 10 contact clock hours for every (1) continuing education unit, as approved by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. These are Category 1 credits (2.15 CEUs).

21.50 Credit Hours for CME ($35)

The American College of Medical Genetics is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American College of Medical Genetics takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity. The ACMG designates this educational activity for a maximum of 21.50 hours in Category I credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spends in the educational activity.

ABMG MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Diplomates achieving certification in 1993 and later are time-limited for a period of 10 years. You are required to participate in Maintenance of Certification at the expiration of your time-limited certification. Diplomates who achieved certification before 1993 are encouraged to participate in the maintenance of certification process as a continuing education exercise.
