Abstract
IN theories explaining glacier basal sliding the transfer of water to form re-gelation ice is usually considered. However, the origin of this water has not been clearly demonstrated. In the case studied here, this water is squeezed out from the basal ice mass before re-freezing at the interface. This is indicated by the cationic composition of re-gelation ice.
