Abstract
OBSERVATION of the diffuse galactic radiation at near infrared wavelengths where the interstellar extinction becomes comparatively small could be an effective way of investigating the galactic structure especially in the central region of the Galaxy. We report here observation of the diffuse galactic radiation at 2.4 µm in the central region of the Galaxy between l = 350° and 30° using a balloon-borne telescope with a resolution of 1°. The central bulge of the Galaxy, and the very flat and narrow disk components were clearly demonstrated. A strong interstellar extinction concentrated in the galactic plane in the central region of the Galaxy was observed.
