E. coli membrane lipid alteration affecting T4 capsid morphogenesis

Abstract

An Escherichia coli mutant, hd B3-1, cold sensitive for T4+ capsid assembly is described. The hd B3-1 character seems to be caused by altered lipid components of the bacterial inner membrane. The genetic locus for the hd B3-1 phenotype is designated fat A and is closely linked to proline.
