Abstract
Glücksmann and Tansley1 reported that the developing retina was very vulnerable to X rays and this has been confirmed by many other investigators2–4. Some drugs which inhibit DNA synthesis may also inhibit cellular proliferation and thus cause maldevelopment of the retina. This would result because, in the neural retina of the suckling animals, active cellular proliferation is taking place producing neurones at the inner and outer nuclear layers5,6.
