The method described herein combines a commercial automated cell scanning system (Duet™, BioView Ltd, Nes-Ziona, Israel) designed for diagnosis and follow-up of hematological diseases, and a biological method, which enables multi-sequential staining of cell preparations.

This method provides two important features: (1) Automated bright field and fluorescence scanning and classification of large numbers of cells. The automated scanning allows rapid and efficient identification of residual leukemia cells. (2) Combined analysis of morphology or immunocytochemistry and FISH on the same cells (eg morphology and two rounds of FISH with different probes), thereby enhancing the specificity of leukemia cell detection.
