The Marmoset as an Animal Model for Teratological Research

Abstract

AN extensive literature1 exists in which rodents and rabbits have been used for the production and study of congenital malformations. There is an urgent need for the provision of a suitable near-human model for research in teratology; this became most evident when critical testing in lower mammals failed to reveal the teratogenic properties exhibited in man by thalidomide.
