Effect of Antilymphocyte Serum on the Growth of Hep 2 and HeLa Cells in Mice

Abstract

ANTILYMPHOCYTE serum (ALS) has been shown to be an effective immunosuppressant, with low toxicity1. Mice treated with ALS (prepared against mice) will accept skin heterografts2 and rat Walker 256 carcinoma3. We have previously reported the growth of Hep 2 and HeLa cells in mice conditioned with ALS (ref. 4). We give here a more detailed report of the growth of these tumours in mice conditioned with ALS either given alone or combined with adult thymectomy or pretreatment with normal rabbit gamma globulin.
