Haemoglobin Babinga (δ 136 Glycine→Aspartic Acid): a New Delta Chain Variant

Abstract

DURING the past 3 years the Babinga pygmies living in the Central African Republic have been the subject of an extensive genetical study by Cavalli-Sforza and co-workers1. Haemoglobins were studied during this investigation and the results will be reported in full elsewhere. This communication deals with the chemical characterization of a new haemoglobin variant found during this survey.
