Abstract
IT has been suggested that local splenic X-irradiation leads to the release of a substance which inhibits mitosis1–3. It has also been found that when blood serum withdrawn from rabbits 3 h after local splenic X-irradiation is injected intramuscularly into normal healthy rabbits, it induces a similar drop in the number of reticulocytes as does an injection of blood plasma withdrawn from isolated spleens which had been irradiated3.
