Protective Effect of Some Neutral Solutes on the Inactivation of Myosin A–Adenosinetriphosphatase

Abstract

MYOSIN–ATPASE is a labile enzyme the activity of which is easily destroyed by various physical or chemical operations during preparation such as heating1–6, freezing and thawing7, lyophilizing8, and shifting the pH of the solution to the acid or alkaline side6,9,10. Hence, the only means of storage of this enzyme after preparation has been to keep it a little above 0° C and at a neutral pH. Under these conditions, it retains its activity for a few weeks.
