Hafnian Zircons

Abstract

AMONG quadrivalent trace elements, hafnium is a constant and inseparable associate of the more common zirconium. All zirconium and zirconium-bearing minerals contain appreciable amounts of hafnium; zircon (ZrSiO4), one of the most common accessory constituents in rocks, particularly those of granitic composition, is the main carrier of this element.
