Abstract
THE phenomenon of mitosis confronts the investigator with mysteries which become more and more occult with the increase in our knowledge of the basic biochemistry of the nucleus. Although the intense current interest in this field has produced many hypotheses concerning the structure, function, mode of replication of deoxyribonucleic acid, and its relationships with ribonucleic acid and protein, much of this is based on circumstantial evidence.
