Particles with Spin One

Abstract

KANESAWA and Tomonaga1 have extended the many-time formalism to the interaction of vector and scalar (or pseudoscalar) particles with the electromagnetic field. In a previous note2 one of us (McC.) has already used this formalism to calculate the electromagnetic self-energy of particles with spin zero and found that, so far as the well-known quadratic divergence is concerned3, the result is ambiguous and that this ‘quadratic divergence’ may also be given the value zero (or any other value). We have now also calculated the self-energy of a particle with spin one, up to terms in e2.
