Abstract
RECENTLY, Ingold and co-workers have presented evidence of the existence of the nitronium ion (NO2+) in solutions of nitric acid in concentrated sulphuric acid1,2. We wish to report some observations on the ultra-violet absorption spectrum and electrical conductance of the system water/nitric acid/nitrogen pentoxide which are of relevant interest.
