THE following is from Jamieson:—“Quhyn, Quhin-Stane, s.i. Green-stone; the name given to basalt, trap, &c.… Isl. hwijna, resonare, hwin, resonans, q. ‘the resounding stone.’” “Whin, whinstane, s. Ragstone or toadstone.”
