The Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences, was founded in 1932. It was established as the institute for drug research within the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The principal aim of the Institute is to promote drug discovery and development through research on the structure, targets and mechanisms of activity of bioactive substances. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, formerly known as the Nang Yang Public School, was founded in 1896. It is one of the oldest universities in China.
